Overview of Assinie

On the southeastern coast of Cote d’Ivoire, Assinie is a narrow peninsula town located at about 75 km east of Abidjan. It has idyllic pure white sandy beaches and a forest, on the edge between the Atlantic Ocean and the Aby lagoon which is occupied by luxury villas, mansions and exotic African style huts. You can go there by car, private boats, or canoes. If you want to get away from the busy life of Abidjan and want to relax, enjoy the clear azure water, the clean white sandy beaches, this is the ideal place for you.

However, attractions of Assinie are not confined to its lovely white sandy beaches. There are other things such as the villages nestled in the forests, coconut and pineapple plantations, etc…

It is one of the most popular destinations on the West African coastal region for water sports enthusiasts; ideally suited for windsurfing, kite surfing, canoeing, sport fishing, water skiing and sailing. When you are not participating in beach activities, explore the historic buildings of the region.

The French and the missionaries settled there in the 1600s then in the early 1700s French settlers used this town to carry out slave trade business.

To access the beach, one has to use a boat to cross the lagoon Ebrie. For surfers, Assinie is the best surfing location in Cote d’Ivoire.

There is a popular Museum (ANIABA) which holds the regions artefacts such as traditional costumes.
