Le Zoo d’Abidjan
The only zoo in Cote d’Ivoire, created privately in 1930 the Abidjan Zoo has had mixed fortunes, during the war, some 40 animals died, among them 6 lions. One of the lucky survivors was Can, an elephant named after the French acronym for the African cup of nations because she was born in 1992, the year CĂ´te d’Ivoire won its first CAN trophy. The Zoo is undergoing a major rehabilitation and development program. Rare West African animals can be seen there. The Zoo has a substantial collection crocodiles (Mecistops Cataphractus), other animals include: Hyenas, turtle, chimpanzees, hippopotamus etc.
