Parc national de la Comoé

Comoé National Park

The Comoé National Park is one of the largest protected areas in West Africa (over 11 000 km2), this park was registered as UNESCO World Heritage Center in 1983. It is located in the country’s northeast region.

The park is home to the Comoé river which allows tourists to experience a great diversity of plants, most of which are only found much farther south. The Park also has diverse habitants such as shrub savannahs and patches of thick rainforest. It thus constitutes an outstanding example of the transitional habitant between the forest and the savanna.

There is a variety of wide wildlife species such as 135 species of mammals, 35 amphibians and 500 bird species, many of which enjoy international protection, in particular the chimpanzees, African wild dogs and African elephants.

Visitors to this park are advised to commence their journey from Bouna or Ferkessédougou (both of which are approximately 690 km from Abidjan).
